Friday my sister and I started making a cake for my nephew's 4th birthday. We wanted to keep it a secret so when we showed up it would be a complete surprise for everyone and not just Zach. My mom however was incredibly curious to know what we were up to, and I talked to her and she brought up the cake, and I asked if Britney had told her what we were doing. She said "Yeah, that's pretty cool." I was shocked and said she wasn't supposed to tell anyone! My mom must've felt guilty 'cause she admitted she was just trying to get info out of me and Brit hadn't told her anything. Little does she know she had me, and I was about to talk about the cake. Her and my dad were there a little later and it was difficult to keep them both from snooping with all our cake supplies around. We were in the process of making blue fondant and she asked if that was for the river. We didn't fall into her trap that time.
Saturday morning I helped Brit lay down sod in her front lawn, and it looks great and my buns got a workout as well. Later that afternoon we got back together to put the finishing touches on the cake and after an exhausting day were thrilled to have it done and ready to go.
Through a blog I read I had won tickets to Annie Get Your Gun at the Scera outdoor theater, so Saturday night Jordan and I had an adorable little date and saw the show. We brought dinner, laid down blankets and had a picnic while we were waiting for the show to start. I didn't know much about the show, only that it was a musical and a western. Two facts I admittedly kept from Jordan, and told him it was just a play. Partway through he leaned over and whispered, "There sure are a lot of songs in this play." I laughed, "That's because it's a musical." to which he replied, "You said it was a play!" I couldn't do much other than roll my eyes, 'cause really, if he couldn't figure out it was a musical halfway through, there really isn't much to say. It was a lot of fun, and I hope we can do that again. I wonder what else I can convince him is "just a play".
Sunday evening we went to my brother's house for my nephew's birthdya, and I was incredibly excited to reveal the cake. We had been planning this cake for months, and we were excited to finally have an occasion for it. Here it is:
Complete with a sunken ship, treasure and live fish! We had some last minute problems with the structure, 'cause we had cut out supports too long so the fishbowl wasn't as sturdy as we would have liked, but overall I'm very proud of the way it had turned out. Our sis-in-law even thought the rocks on the bottom were real, but nope- all fondant. And here is a pic of the little slugger with his cake:
Golly, he is just adorable. We already have ideas for our other nephew's cake, but have to wait till January to make it. In the meantime, I'm looking for an excuse to make another cake. Anyone have a birthday, anniversary or special event coming up? I can't wait for the weather to cool off a little so i can experiment with buttercream more without it melting.

Amanda's Birthday is in September. I would love to have you guys make a cake for my girls. That would be the bomb!!!
I'm so sorry! Jordan is definitely his mother's son with the comment "there sure are a lot of songs". I can't do musicals either so it must be in the genes.
Such a cool cake! Good job tricking Jordan into going to a musical...I will have to remember that!
